Huet 2002 wiki

Opened an 02 Le Mont demi last night at home to pair with grilled swordfish finished in the oven with salmoriglio (lemon/garlic/fresh oregano) and capers (Hazan's recipe). Had an 08 ready in case this was oxidised. Damn! Not! And as my friend annie and iwere lightweights 25% of the bottle left so i poured some to go with my spring pea "bouillaibaise" (sp?) and guess what. Delicious.

I have no idea why I am lucking out.

Chris brought an '02 LHL Demi-Sec to the birthday jeeb yesterday that was just fabulous. Everything that we hoped the wine would turn into when we originally bought them.

It's puzzling, there's been so much hand-wringing about the '02 Huets, but all my bottles have shown well, so I wanted to trot one out to see if was just me. It was gone by the time I got there, but I'm glad it carried the flag well.

My situation too. And I bought all of mine in ny (chambers and
Crush)

Data point:
2002 Le Mont, Demi-Sec last night was delicious.
Looking forward to having the rest of the bottle tonight.
Best, Jim

Sipping an '02 Le Mont demi in Chelsea Storage as we celebrate Jay Miller's birthday. Not quite as fresh as the LHL demi at my birthday, but a very enjoyable bottle.

Happy birthday, Jay!

I should add that it unfortunately declined with air and started to show more ox.

Two bottles of 2002 Petillant Reserve last night. The first was fresh and drinking wonderfully. The second one was even better. The first from some else's stash; the second from mine. Still haven't had a shot or particularly advanced 2002 Petillant Reserve, with a sample size now around 15 bottles. Maybe I am just incredibly lucky.

Come visit. Bring your luck. And one of your bottles.

I know there is a long history and many bad reports, but I still couldn't resist taking a gamble on the 2002 Huet Le Mont Demi-Sec, in part because of encouragement from the friendly retailer here.

And I was glad for it. Because it was a lovely lovely bottle. The fruit in the middle is still decently plump and could obviously evolve (much) further. In theory. But in practice, tonight there is a lovely combination of mellowed yet-still-succulent fruit and vivacious mineral finish. Hard to complain about this bottle. And easy to be excited.

I disinterred a lost case of 02 le Haut Lieu Sec last year and have been drinking them at the rate of about a bottle every month or two. One was clearly oxidized. A couple have tasted gone on opening, but then shown very nicely indeed after a day or two in the 'fridge - a pattern I've also observed in some moderately-aged cru Beaujolais.

Of my case of 02 le Mont demi, only one or two bottles were bad. I am saving my last one to bring up and drink with Brad, when, in the fullness of time, I finally make up to Gotham for a jeeb.

I had Lisa, Don and Jeff over for dinner last night and we enjoyed a simply stunning bottle of '02 Le Mont Demi-Sec from my stash that has produced mostly premoxed swill over the the 6-8 years. Fresh, vibrant, long and precisely the reason why so many of us were gaga over the wine in the first place and why some of us went long on buying them. Absolutely tragic that more bottles haven't shown like this.

So sorry to miss but duty called though as it transpired I had nothing to do. 1 hour to market open when hopefully things will continue boring.

You were missed and major bummer you didn't get to experience such a rare, stellar showing.

Two bottles of 02 LHL demisec opened this week, that were pleasant surprises.

Up until these two, this bottle for me has been one of the worst offenders.
Previous bottles had not only been oxidized but had something else weird going on. Maybe bacterial, I’m not sure. In addition to golden color and apple cider, they tasted like 3 day old clams that had been left out drying in a hot summer sun. Spoilage and funky shellfish, not drinkable.

The two this week were deep yellow color, but with nice recognizable Chenin flavors of honey and dried pear fruit, good acidity and long finish. No cider and no funk. Amazing.

All from the same batch of a case I bought from a West Coast retailer, and all prior bottles except one opened shortly after purchase were pretty bad.

By the way, at the recent Southern Jeebus, I opened my last bottle of 2002 Huet Petillant Reserve at Nathan's house for lunch. Just perfect, as all of the other bottles from that case have been. And this time I have witnesses who can attest to it.
