"In 1954, the village council of Chateauneuf-du-Pape was quite perturbed and apprehensive that flying saucers or “flying cigars” might do damage to their vineyards were they to land therein. So, right-thinking men all, they passed an ordinance prohibiting the landing of flying saucers or flying cigars in their vineyards. (This ordinance has worked well in discouraging such landings.) Further, any flying saucers or flying cigars that did land were to be taken immediately to the pound.

No woofer this wine, we feel rather that it is quite a stellar accomplishment. The composition of our Flying Cigar is based on the traditional encépagement of Chateauneuf-du-Pape."

sorry, I couldn't help it...

At least, you didn't tweet it, Mr. Winemule.

Another bottle of the wine that started this thread just sold on Winebid. For even more than the last one.

One of the bidders attempted to "snipe" at the last minute, but was thwarted by the winning bidder who already had a higher automatic bid entered. I wonder just how high the automatic bid actually went...

Does that $51,000 include the premium, or is it >$60k all in?

I don't know why I care, it's all much the same madness.

I don't mean to stomp on anyone here with their interests - it is just that sooner or later each of us are going to see ourselves on the silly side of one of these threads. We all have hobbies that cost money.

Huh. Can't see any of those.

Threads on another wine board - one about how to spend lots of money on watches, another on how to spend money on (of all things) shaving and the third on golf. Lots of ways to spend excessive amounts of money.

A friend opened an Albarino from Raul Perez a few months ago that was aged for awhile 60 feet under the waves of the Atlantic. The wine was nice, but it was also the most expensive Albarino I can remember at about $80 retail. Also, not having tried the non-ocean-aged version, I have no idea whether that part of its elevage made any difference.
