What did you get only a taste of tonight?

Gouges 2010 Nuits-St-Georges - tannic, of course, though maybe not so tannic as young Gouges used to be; clean and crisp and pretty

Ch. La Louviere 1988 Pessac-Leognan - perfectly aged, old leather and old animal and old sachet, my lizard-brain sniffs for brett but it isn't here, just enough tannins to keep it interesting

I like this new and improved thread.

I only got a small taste of 2012 Lieser Juffer Spatlese last night, because I had opened the bottle on Christmas Eve, and have been tasting from it since, waiting for the juice to become approachable. That last drop was finally ready!!

about a half glass of vatan 2010 sancerre last night. fennel was predominant. a touch hot maybe but otherwise about as unique a sancerre as ive had.

Luneau-Papin 2009 "Le L d'Or" - a whiff of tropical fruit on opening but that blows off; opens up over the course of an hour or two; a little bigger and sweeter than usual but still tense, minerally, pit-fruit-y, lingering

2011 Lauer Unterstenbersch Fass 12, a trocken bis feinherb, glistened narine-wise like a wet and sparkly New York sidewalk, but the sweetness had a baby confectionery edge and the acidity morphed into an angry-bird bitter finale. Not to be touched before seven years from the vintage.

2008 Eminence Road Farm Winery Elizabeth's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from magnum.

First vintage for ERFW. I think we can safely say that they are not a one-hit wonder.

Vine pests as protecting deities!

What does the M stand for?

2006 La Croix Boisée. Very fine. Right at that delightful moment between primary and secondary delights. Lovely silky texture and tannic structure. Primary Cab Franc fruit and lots of complexity (some berry fruit, some minty thing going on). Mineral and some funk. Great bottle.

Does half a bottle of '13 CRB SB #2 count as only a taste?

The fact that I am posting here answers the question

Scherrer NV "Zinfandoodle 0.1" - Day 4, not much changed from Day 1 (which is typical for Scherrer); also showing no signs of its age (part 2010 wine, part 2011 wine), quite oaky, which is a shame as it masks some really nice blueberry-blackberry fruit; fortunately, a dinner of cassoulet absorbs a lot of tannin but still... eh.

Any recent experience with the 2005?
It was pretty angry last time I checked.

And, in keeping with the thread, tonight we had the 2013 Two Shepherds, Grenache Blanc from Santa Ynez Valley - beautifully scented and left the impression of cold spring water in the mouth. Pretty, feminine and lively.
Best, Jim

Regrettably, no. I have a few bottles stored away; it was only happenstance that I grabbed the '06.

Word must be spreading on Baudry. Not long ago I could reliably count on the better local retailers having something in stock. A recent round of visits showed only the Chinon on the shelves. Now it seems that if I want to secure any of the named vineyards I need to make specific orders.

1985 Graham's Port - Just a small glass with some almonds. Above all else, a really lovely mouth feel.

2005 La Rioja Alta, Vina Ardanza Reserva - Too woody right now and maybe forever. Drunk over four days with all kinds of food but it just wasn't happening.

I had the 1998 of that wine, at about the same age. Also disgustingly woody. They must think that's a "style".

For another data point, I had no issues with wood on the 1989 about a year ago:

February 1, 2014 - Really well-knit, smooth but a little zesty on the back, with alluring leather, red fruit and moderate weight. On the simple side, until I added a grilled ribeye to the mix, and it started to shine. Definitely $25 well spent.

Of course, much changed in the winemaking world between 1989 and 1998.
