A bottle of the '96 Cote Blonde last night was really lovely. 12% abv. A bit quiet for the first 20 minutes, but then it opened into a beautiful, lean, but still vivid cote rote. Haunting nose and beautiful layers of maturing fruit and minerality. Gosh.

Had a bottle of the 2001 St Jo Rivieres last week. The Gods of 15 punished me for my sins.

Ooh, it's stories just like this one that stay my hand when it strays near the numerous yummy syrah-based but of a later vintage than 2000 R-h-o-circumflex-n-e wines in my stash.

Aye, the Rule.
