Clos Roche Blanche: final round

Just a quick note on a few 2014s from CRB, massacred in their infancy in the name of science.

Interestingly, all of the wines are labeled Vin de France this year.

2014 Sauvignon No. 2 - a bruiser, clocking in at 13.5%, but with great sauvignonness and a different kind of body than some SBs that get sweet with ripeness; it still had great balance. It is scarily gluggable.

2014 Cuvée Pif - As David Lillie advises: back up the truck. Only your truck will be mostly empty. This wine is delicious and I guess there is none of it at all.

2014 Cuvée Gamay - Heck, this is good. It is 12% abv, but is lush and avoids any Touraine greenness. It's hard to pinpoint: it doesn't taste like Touraine, and it certainly doesn't taste like Beaujolais, but it sure tastes like Gamay. Like some great, Platonic gamay, I guess.

2014 Pineau d'Aunis Rosé - also very ripe, at 13.5% abv, it is spritzy and fussy amid its viscous weight. An angry thing right now; needs to be shaken and told to calm the fuck down. Probably better with time, I mean.

A six pack (now remaining) available at a New Jersey retailer @ $16 per.

I've only had the rosé out of the 2014s but my bottle was very enjoyable and not at all spritzy. It was a good match for a steak, with its bigger frame.

A bottle of the 2013 Gamay on Friday night had so much depth, more tobacco-ey than I expected.

Brad told me not to open my bottle of 2013 Gamay last night.

You brought three bottles of wine to a Sunday night dinner with five people. All things in moderation. I did tell you to open it instead of the Champagne, for the record.

one can never have too many bottles....

There is a bit of 2014 CRB left at Astor Wines, for those still in need. The Pif and the Sauvignon (limit two of each per customer, it seems). Today there is a sale on all Cab Franc, including Pif. Also some 2012 Baudry and 2012 Eminence Road Elizabeth's Vineyard, for example.

(No affiliation - just here to help.)

Have not tried Pif yet; sounds like I did not buy enough.

The rose amazing this weekend, don't know how I will keep my hands off the stuff.

Gamay and SB#2 really need to settle down, for their respective reasons, but I see a bright future for both.

Still mourning the lack of Arpent in '14, my favorite of all CRBs.

I should have bought some in better quantities yesterday--I was briefly on their site but too busy, and they weren't limiting them. Damn it!

Today there's a bit more rose, Pif, and Sauvignon at Chambers St.

Consider me the CRB tracker.

Sasha - there hasn't been any Arpent since 2012, no?

Yeah, why do you think I drink so much Lemberger and Trollinger? :-)
