restaurants coming soon to NYC

I read a puff piece today about 37 new restos opening in NYC this fall. These two jumped out at me:

Señor Frog's
Opening: September
The Cancun spring break mainstay comes to the Big Apple with a 420-seat bi-level bar and restaurant in Times Square that's bound to give Guy Fieri's joint a run for the money.
11 Times Square

Oh, dear God, why?

And then:

Rouge Tomate
Opening: November
The acclaimed UES vegetable-forward restaurant returns with a new Downtown Chelsea location, located inside a former 19th-century reclaimed horse stable on West 18th. Executive chef Andy Bennett offers up a menu of simplel plates paired with natural wines from partner and beverage director Pascaline Lepeltier in a rustic setting.
126 W. 18th St.

Hooray!

Glad to hear that Times Square visitors will get treated to the experience we so studiously avoided when in Cancun for a conference ages ago (instead we drove to Chichen Itza, getting a delicious Yucatecan dinner in Mérida en route)

Good to hear that Rouge Tomate will be reborn.

Tsk, mister prof, it is Mérida! But, yes.

Also, it is far better to keep that stuff in TS, dear Jeff, wouldn't you say? And I say this as someone who has to fight the flood tide of Elmos daily.

The bonus about the Rouge Tomate new space is that it's right across the street from the Metropolitan Pavilion, where wine tastings and other events are held, so the funnel is short. Should be quite a nice dealie. Also, the sommelière wants to have 2x the amount of wine as at the 2x larger former space, so one implicitly gives the thumbs-up.

And these will have the staying power of, oh, perhaps 1 year? By the time I return to the City by the Harbour, they will have turned to dust (most likely).

Hopefully not RT, which was open for ca. 5 years on East 60th Street before a raise in rent led them to close last August. They found the new spot shortly thereafter, but zoning and other issues delayed a hoped-for May opening of this year. Should do OK once open.

Cannot vouch for Señor Frog.
