I was trying to figure out if this needed to sort itself out by design, or if I was drinking it too early in the shipping season, relative to previous vintages.

I've only had one bottle, but I'd guess both - if it does sort itself out.

if it doesn't, we could always sort ourselves out

That's what I think. My bottle soared and was in no need of sorting out, unless becoming a 3L was in the cards.

A bottle last night gave the impression of richer, deeper fruit, with the usual herbal notes not as prominent. Not a round wine by any means, but atypical from my experience with recent vintages. I quite enjoyed it as a counterpoint. Perhaps it will settle into line with its elder siblings.

Thanks, I'm grabbing them today.

A bottle tonight - my first - from the list at Marlow & Sons was just as Jim describes it. Very tasty at first but it became sterner with time in the decanter.

We didn't decant. There were four of us and it didn't last more than 30 minutes. I think this is the way you are supposed to drink CRB.

The restaurant decanted without my asking - there were two of us and the bottle lasted more like an hour!

Opened one yesterday. Still a little out of sorts, and certainly like no CRB Gamay in recent memory. Wonderful texture and finish though, and it does grow on you.

2009 Domaine Gauby Les Calcinaires VdP Côtes Catalanes 13.0%
With oysters. A bit on the plump side, as befits vintage and latitude, but still a treat. The delish oysters, not too briny, might have been better matched with something more acidic.

2014 Clos Roche Blanche Gamay 12.0%
With yummy lamb sausage. Very fresh and herbaceous, with tons of thyme on its hands. Joy in a bottle.
PSA: last of the mohicans available at Eli’s for $50. Go, wine disorder!

2006 Clos Rougeard Saumur Champigny Les Poyeux 12.5%
With tasty rib-eye and, later, a cheese plate. Nouveau wood generates silky textures and curvy flavors that I habitually find contemptible, for reasons both mental and sensory; here the senses developed a mind of their own and fell head over heels with this particular gestalt, leaving unanchored reason grasping for headspace. Sumptuous and memorable, despite the occasional groveling cry of “Objection, your honor!”
