Good food and wine with Sharon, Georg, Arjun, Slaton, Diane and I.
At Barbacco in SF.
The Muskateller was hard to put down.
The others were of interest, some better than others, and all seemed to gain with air.
Best, Jim

Great picture, Jim.

Despite the shakenness of world events, we managed to carve out a great evening. I felt that everything was drinking very well, and was especially enamored of the three reds.

A prior tipple at Arlequin allowed us to enjoy the back garden, which is a very cool spot indeed. And they had some Ganevat pours left over from a previous thing the day before.

Most of all, the company was fantastic. Thanks, fellows.

Very nice! How was that 96 Ferrando Carema drinking? I have yet to try an older bottle but my buddy Evan has some really older stuff (both white and black label, I think) that's he's bound to crack open sooner than later.

Slaton's bring and he did not seem too pleased.
For me, a touch of VA but nicely balanced and light on its feet. Little secondary development but I enjoyed it.

I was a fan of it; I came to it without what to expect, and I found it young but pretty—better over the course of the evening.

Leroy 2004.

Doing its declassified Clos Vougeot roots proud, I assume?
I thought this bottling was all declassified Côte de Beaune?
Best, Jim

Per an online source (so, grain de sel), the 2004 "Bourgogne includes Clos Vougeot and all the Leroy holdings in Cote de Beaune, from Grand Cru to Villages, etc."

I found it did show its breeding.

Oh, that's hilarious; thanks, Jeff. I hadn't had the wine since those days (2008), so didn't want to rely on any possibly faulty memory. Hadn't recalled that we'd all bandied this info about.

The palate had caught up to the nose, FWIW.

And didn't mean to snub the Clos de la Roche and all the Côte de Beaune contributions, just that this wine always seemed more Vougeot to me.
