Hot damn! This showed really well last night and even impressed my GFs parents who are Burgundy snobs. Decanted for about 45 minutes before dinner, but even the first taste showed that this wine has evolved pleasantly over the last couple of years (and in the expected trajectory!). Getting a bit pinote, with some bottle sweetness and sous bois coming into play. The tannins are more resolved, but still present. There remains good red fruit and tangy minerals but more autumnal. I think it is entering its window, but should stay there for a good long time. There is something for everyone here. Some fruit left for me, some tertiary notes for Jay. If you have a batch, pop one now.

So I did. I think my bottle must have been frozen. Very backward, taking quite some time to open up after each new pour.

That said, it matched the description above quite well, except in a muted sort of way (even though I am unable to comment on Jay the Tertiary).

There is also a slight chance I mishandled the bottle. It had been transported across state lines (love doing that, without paperwork, yay America) three weeks ago and resting nicely ever since, before being decanted without much lifting or any rotation. I thought all the sediment was black and chunky and gathered on the glass, but am now second-guessing myself as the flashlight was nearly dead and I may have missed some fine white stuff. That would explain the experience.

FYI this was bottling #1.

I've opened so many DMJ's too early that I've been determined to wait out the 2005's. But I may relent soon and contribute another datum to the sample count.

Mine are all from Chambers, so should be in good shape, in any event.
