With progeny away at a sleepover, I prepared a meal for 2 of smoked quail with shiitake risotto and sautéed green beans. Jean chose the title wine to go with it and it was a magical choice. The wine itself refused to sit still for us, at one moment light, spicy and perfumed; at another, deep and darkly fruited. The risotto brought out an earthy element but it really shone when paired with the quail. The one flaw I felt was a bit of alcoholic heat in the nose. Certainly this wasn't the most complex wine I've encountered, but a most pleasurable bottle.
