Sandlands Chenin and oak

Florida Jim

Florida Jim
I have had the 2014 versions of the Sandlands Chenin from Napa, Amador and California (all three of the designations they do) - all with food over an extended period, whether one evening or several.
I agree that the Amador is the oakiest but enjoyed it with linguini and clams tonight finding it neither too much so or the worse for its treatment.
The California struck me as the hardest; very firm, almost angular.
The Napa was my favorite.
These initial experiences convince me to buy whatever they will sell me, annually.
Just sayin'.
Best, Jim

I tend to celebrate the fortuitous lack of oak treatment on Loire chenin blancs in general, and the delicate evolution of place that can occur in same cuvées. Let's listen to the grape at that place and time...
And not fail to listen to California's benighted contributions, minus oak treatments if anyone is that patient and loving.

Steve,
I don't know the barrel regimen but can surmise that the Amador sees wood.
While it isn't my preference at the moment, the wine is strong enough to give me a wait and see attitude. A strong "we'll see" is my current thought, although, it was quite tasty with food.

Gents,
I taste things I don't care for, whether from CA or elsewhere; your broad brush is misused.
But I taste a great deal I like, even if others don't.
One man's opinion.
Best, Jim

Jim, well said!

If you're like me (and I think you are), you rarely bother to drink wines that are not expected to measure up...life is too short and there are too many to choose from that DO measure up.

First Brad, then Pete. Tough day for Jim. But i am confident he is tougher yet.

I'm wondering. He'd never make it in NY if he can't handle some gentle ribbing from friends.
