Mark, did you really mean 47 micron? Seems a little large, and Google says that's the size of a coarse frit.

My bad. They're 47 mm diameter filters but 0.45 micron pore size.

You've made a good point about millipore filtration vs chemex paper filters. The former, of course, can only be used after cleaning up the wine with a pre-filtration using DE and pads, or something similar. Obviously this whole process strips the wine of aroma and texture.

If brilliant the wine must be, filtration into a decanter using a chemex filter will certainly damage the wine less BUT that paper filter must be triple washed with hot water to eliminate off odors.

The one device missing from the wine lover's armamentarium is the clinical centrifuge, a convenient benchtop device that runs on standard 120 V service. Got murky sediment? Just spin down your
'45 La T“che at 1200 RPM to pellet out those gritty tannins. No wine geek should be without one. Take decantation to the next level!

OK based on this commentary I'm sticking with my decanter. Stick with the original guidance, everyone!

As long as we're aerating, why not a magnetic stirrer? Always seemed like a cool piece of lab tech to me.

The rotating magnetic field is a plus!

Magnetic stirring is not as strong as mechanical stirring, which is why we have a couple of overhead mechanical stirrers as well as a dozen magnetic stirrers. But a kiitchen blender will give just as much aeration as any of those devices will.
