Anyone have some trebbiano recommendations?

I find myself in the mood for trebbiano but not in the mood to pay Valentini prices.

Would appreciate any recommendations. Thank you!

Tiberio is very much worth your time. Both the entry level bottling and the Fonte Canale are excellent wines and very much over deliver for their prices.

Thank you Saul! I see Wine Library, Flatiron and MWC all carry the entry level bottling. I'd have to order the Fonte Canale or just wait until the next time I'm in Westchester. Or possibly dragoon Dale...

They drink well in those slums. $85/bottle is a small improvement but not really a huge one.

And I agree that Valentini is sublime.

Jay, have you ever had Marina Cvetic Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Riserva?

It's not in the V or P camp at all, more like a rich, white Burgundy style (and with all the oak that that implies). I am not usually a fan of the oak, but somehow it worked, like oak in a Rioja blanco.

How did this come to be?

You asked so you have no one to blame but yourself.

I'm planning a Sherry dinner and remembered that sasha had never gotten back to me on some Sherry I was hoping to acquire from him which reminded me of the one wine he had ever gotten back to me on which was a Valentini Cerasuolo which I declined because I had hoped to open it at a dinner which had already passed. However that reminded me of the last time I had a Valentini Trebbiano and how wonderful it was. A quick check showed me it was as expensive as I remembered but I was still in the mood so I posted this question.

Good to know. I'm picking up a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo from them today. Will try the trebbiano next time.

Was just talking about having more fresh, lively wines around the house like we drink at a couple of our favorite restaurants. Well done trebbiano is in this frame to me along with lots of other stuff.

100%

I would encourage you to pick up her Cerasuolo as well if it's available. Pairs well with stuffed squid.

Oh, see, that's useful information. Because you didn't find yourself in the mood for trebbiano, you found yourself in the mood for Valentini.

Had the 2015 Tiberio Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Sunday evening. It was a strapping beast of a wine. Very dark and deep with lots of earthy, gamey notes and a core of fruit. Somewhat four-square but still lively, if that makes any sense. Rustic in a very nice way. Would work great with some sort of stew, I think. Anyway, worth checking out. Not sure I'll have a regular need for this wine, but will keep a couple of bottles around.
