I have a bunch of the Druet magnums KL brought in, and I decided to open one out of burning curiosity.

The first bunch of 750s they had were terrific, and the 2nd batch as bad as the first was good. They seemed badly heat damaged - many of the corks have been sticky. I was worried about the mags as we bought those with the 2nd batch.

96 Bourgueil Grand Mont - really, really delicious. Quite reticent on nose. Reminds me actually of Clos Rougeard's base cuvee. A touch of pond water, autumn leaves, fine smoke, tomato leaf, grippy acidity, a hint of roast beef.

This is the kind of wine that keeps me in the game.

Druet. Sorry, that wasn't clear.

This went over the hill rather quickly after opening - revising my assessment.

Lol, sorry, I read Gruet, then thought the Bourgueil was by somebody else.

I opened one of the '95 Druet Chinon Clos de Danzay magnums (same source) at Thanksgiving last year. It had some dried seepage under the capsule and may not have been treated with loving kindness for the entirety of its time in the supply chain. But the wine was in decent shape regardless with dark fruit and lovely capsicum and olive notes, and just a slightly dirty note in the background.

I have not cared for any of the Druet Chinons I've had - not commenting on your magnum, just a general comment.
