    This and That.

Jim, Christian Clerget's 1993 Chambolle-Musigny was the moment I fell in love with the reds of Bourgogne. I was lucky to also find 1996 C. Clerget Chambolle-Musigny "Les Charmes" and 1996 Echezeaux Grand Cru. Found them all at vintage release. I started opening them 8 to 10 years after vintage...

    Current State of "Terroir Debate"

My personal definition is "....the attributes of a wine that the winemaker cannot take with them when they die." Alice Feiring has an interesting if not rigorous article about the term "terroir" in Issue 39, October 2025 of Noble Rot magazine, London. This issue is subtitled: "Location...

Claude, thanks for your recollections on character of wines, vignobles and terroirs... I'm curious if your memory/experience includes tasting 2001 T.Mugnier Musigny at any point.... thoughts for now?

    Wine impressions 6-4-25

Jim, lovely notes. Intriguing apprehension of Michel « Grenouille » sensations. Corton sounds lovely and deep; definite on the iron notes when I’ve tasted and I wonder if you sensed any red clay/red soil notes in the mouth as well which has been my experience.. Yay on the Goisot! I have...

    Wine impressions 5-16-25

Jim, always appreciate your notes and especially your attention to Chablis. Thanks. Cantin stuff sounds juicy, I'm fond of Irancy but don't often find an opportunity to taste. A favorite of mine is J-H & G. Goisot, do you know them in Saint-Bris; they do lovely stuff in Côte d'Auxerre...

    Portuguese TNs (some 11% abv) -- 5/4/25

2023 Aphros Vinho Verde Loureiro Branco: Grapefruit, lemon zest, and herbs on the nose. Quite light bodied, crisp, steely, and linear. There's green fruit, citrus, and bitter herbal flavors lying atop a pronounced minerally substrate. Light bodied, but good density on the midpalate. There's...

    Tasty Burgs (May 2025)

"....Domaine Trapet Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru (4/30/2025) Meaty, earthy nose of forest floor and manure with an undertone of dark cherry and flowers. Interestingly, there are not strong stemmy aromas, despite the wine having whole clusters. Texturally...

2009 Huet Vouvray "Clos du Bourg" sec

Hi Rahsaan, gotta say that all my Huet has been purchased upon vintage release retail, not third party or auction in later years... been lucky that way.

2009 Huet Vouvray "Clos du Bourg" sec

Gorgeous. Lithe balance. A mineralized tiger that grew up on pears and yellow citrus flowers. A feline who cat-scratched tuffeau. Limpid.

The light, delicate, elegant red thread

Salut! Hope your haircut was sublime. I find it hard to believe that Bourgeuil doesn't blithely trip off your tongue ... it's always tripping off my tongue and most recently in the vineyards in October last year.
