Mid Loire visit recommendations esp Saumur/Chinon

Julien Pineau is one of the new owners of CRB and, as it happens, he is hosting a mini-salon on June 24-25 with a dozen or so vignerons all tasting "dans les vignes du Clos Roche Blanche." The group trends much nattier than a lot of the names in this thread, but for three euros you could do...

I don't know the science, but this describes Jérôme Guichard's wines for me.

    Quebec wine?

I try to buy/drink as much Québecois wine as I can but this list is daunting. Les Pervenches and Domaine du Nival are imported by Vom Boden; you can find good write-ups of the specific cuvées on their website. I find the wines compelling but often cerebral; they don't necessarily do well in a...

    Back to Paris

Sota Atsumi, former chef at Clown Bar, is reopening his place Maison at the end of June after several months of renovations on top of COVID disruptions. It looks like they're currently accepting bookings through July 30. That's a seat that I would hustle for (am hustling for). Parcelles is a...

    Impressions 12-1-21

I'm in Paris now - I saw the '18 l'Anglore Terre d'Ombre on the list at Le Servan last night for 36 euros. To the best of the my knowledge, the wines are released in the spring early summer and sell out quickly here, but there's a caviste around the corner from my place in the 3e that currently...

    Laurent Saillard Wines

I didn't have a lot of experience with the CRB sauvignon blanc, so I can't help with the comparison. I have enjoyed the Blank bottling as a winter white - it is somewhat more muscular than Lucky You! and does well at the table with heftier food. I might look to Thomas-Labaille's Cuvée Buster as...

    4 Wines w/dinner (menu)

Along those lines, Tom Wolfe's From Bauhaus to Our House starts with a good overview of the early 20th-century "serif wars." The idea that typing in Helvetica could be revolutionary practice seemed super-compelling to teenage me back in the 80's. The documentary Helvetica also has lots of good...

    TN: Recent drinks (August 2019)

Fun fact: the "Railsback Soeur" in question is my friend Emily Railsback, sister to winemaker Eric Railsback (of Lieu Dit), and director of the wonderful documentary about Georgian wine Our Blood is Wine.

This is Castello di Argiano, owned by Giuseppe Sesti. You're thinking of Tenuta di Argiano.

    Chateau des Tours

And the rose, Parisy? I was in Lyon for a conference a few weeks back and one of my hosts, a self-styled wine guy, could not stop raving about it. He even dragged me to a couple of retailers looking for it. I would normally have dismissed his enthusiasm except he knew the secret Disorderly...

    Random note...les Arlots' sister establishment

As it happens, I had lunch there last Friday; a friend lives upstairs from Les Arlots and he suggested it. While it's not shaking up my bracket of Parisian caves à manger, the food was good and the young staff were very welcoming. Definitely worth noting if you're in the Gare du Nord area.

    Disorderly Toronto

For drinking and small plates, you'll do very well at Midfield, Paris Paris, and Archive 909. Those are all on Dundas West. Bar Isabel on College has a great list and excellent food. All of these are open until 2am on weekends. If you're on the east side, I've heard good things about Lake Inez...
