SF 4August

I need to back out on tuesday night as I need to make a technology get together. Enjoy. Sorry for being such a space cadet and flip flopping so much.

Fred, Sandy is out (see the post right above yours). That leaves 9 confirmed, awaiting Steve and VLM's response. It would also be easy enough for you to send them a PM through the Message link.

I had some communication with vlm about another event and my impression was he went to New York this week in lieu of a west coast trip. I suppose his plans could have changed since then, though.

We just ate at La Ciccia Thursday night. It had been awhile since I'd been there, but I was really reminded how small the place is. There really is no room for things like empty wine carriers or boxes of stems.

My impression is that for a more casual tasting like this it's probably not necessary to bring stems - the restaurant can easily supply a couple per person. But if you do bring them I strongly suggest your box and any wine carriers and the like be stashed back in your car instead.

Also, the chef Massimo is justifiably proud of his large wine list, so if anyone is inclined to order something from Sardegna (or elsewhere in Italy) I'm sure they will appreciate that.

I expect that we will be seated in two tables of six. I don't see how they can do 12 together in that space.

I'm excited about trying some of the wines off of their list, for sure.

So I'm bringing an '89 Burlotto Monvigliero and a '96 Molettieri Taurasi Cinque Querce

With VLM most likely out, we would be 9 or 10. The same table sizes would probably be used (either a 6 and 4-top, or two 6's). Personally, I'd make it for 10 and figure that Steve is coming.

Agree with Slaton here, no need to bring stems since this isn't a structured event like Orange Sunshine.

I am really sorry, but I have just been called to a business meeting in Chicago and have to fly out tomorrow afternoon. I apologize for the late notice, but it is out of my control. Please have a great time.

Thinking over the selection of antipasti and firsts at La Ciccia, I feel somewhat compelled to bring a white. I'll bring one of my favorite Italian whites, the '01 Benanti Pietramarina Superiore. This is a Mt Etna wine made from 80 to 100 year old carricante vines.

Btw, I noticed that the first post reads "bring your own stems". Meanwhile, I opined a few posts back that people just use the restaurant's glassware. Was bringing our own stems a condition of our half-off corkage deal?

Cool, thanks Fred.

Have to admit when I was pulling the Pietramarina, my eyes rested for a while on a bottle of Palari Faro. But I think I'm going to stick to my guns on bringing white.
