EPL Season

In the Flamini configuration, the person you do not want to get injured is Ramsey.

Excitement about Ozil?
Lets see: Germany is my favourite national side since like 1985, Arsenal is my second favourite club in the world, and the kid can pass the ball on the ground better than anyone but Pirlo.
Add that up.

A. I'm going to pat myself on the back for being a staunch Ramsey supporter, often to howls of derision.

B. With the way he is playing, we don't want to see Ramsey hurt no matter who is playing.

C. However, Flamini gives us a lot more flexibility to use any of 4 players in that second midfield position and will really take the burden off of Arteta, especially. Exactly the kind of "water carrier" that we needed, if not at the top of my list.

A. Indeed !

B. Yep.

C. That's half the problem solved. The other half is Wenger who I think continues to expose the back 4 and then blame them when the DMs aren't closing down, not to mention the wingers are 40 yards up the field waiting for the ball. E.g. last winter's Spurs game - not Vermaelen's fault, what the hell was Arteta doing. So Flamini is good but he won't read the plays well enough to compensate for this lack of policy.

flamini knows the system. and is not afraid to organize / lead those around him. in the 2nd half on sunday, he was our most important player. so i'm pleased with the resigning -- we could have easily wasted a whole crop of zlotys on a famous name only to find that he didn't fit.

actually, given the subsequent signing of ozil, make that very pleased.

I'm with his corpulence on this one. We could have done much worse than Flamini and it's hard for me to name someone who would have fit better that isn't in the $35M+ range.

I would have liked to see us have a go at Draxler and another centerback. Again, I'm surprised we didn't go for Sahko if he was available. Must be an issue there. I also think Wenger rates Miquel pretty highly.

Arsenal still look brittle, and it's not clear how Ozil will fit in. Consolation is that Spurs will probably implode, having spent a lot of money on a lot of good but not great players.

I can't stand his antics, but it looks like Mourinho could be the (Happy) Special One again.

looking brittle is different to being brittle. take a look at the numbers since the turn of year.

Can I just vent for a second about the silly narrative surrounding the Gunners.

Would I have liked another centerback this window? Sure. Was defense our primary problem over the course of the season? Not if you look at the final table where our defensive record was second to Man City.

I'm also not convinced that Mignolet is better than Szczesny. Now, De Gea, that's a different story. Unless we were going to grab Gigi Buffon-like keeper (or Courtois, who has been impressive every time I've seen him, fucking Chelsea) what is the point?

OK. Let the Özil era begin. BTW, I pronounce it ehrzel, is that correct?

Lucky you, I have much bigger issues.
But that's what happens when you win everything. It's nearly impossible to stay at the top.

If you teach me how to pronounce Wilshere, I'll work with you on Özil .

We'll see. Even Özil has to get the ball first. For me, it's all about the Flamini tune you and fb are singing to me.

Flamini just needs to win the ball, protect the back four, and play simple balls to Ramsey (Arteta, Wilshere), Cazorla, or Özil. Flamilele.

"just" ?

Aaron Ramsey cannot be stopped.

Özil is the best player in the EPL. I love how he plays with the ball in a zone, it doesn't have to stick to his feet. He lets it roll and runs alongside it. Some of his passes don't look crisp enough, yet find their man. Magic.

.sasha, are you convinced by Flamilele yet?

Mertesacker sure steadies the ship.

I would put Ramsey on Bayern right now.

I loved the collective media analysis of Özil's "off game" on the weekend. I had always wondered what this team would look like with some quality passing around the box. He is going to make Podolski look really good at some point.

Flamini superb... WTF?! But even he won't be able to cover for Sagna if this shit keeps up. Get Jenkinson in there. Now.

Fucking Muller, again. I didn't think this would keep up under Mr Control Freak.
Two goals today, both while sliding feet first and falling on his ass, the first off his chest. I don't know how these balls head in the right direction, let alone go in.

On a more serious note, anyone see the super cup between Chelsea and Bayern?

I have been a big admirer of Jose for years, particularly during the Inter job, but I would press criminal charges in a sports court at this point. They were dirtier than a League 2 team in an FA Cup game. And not the way Real used to do it against Barca - this was far worse.
