EPL Season

"That petition does not impress me, I must admit,'' a visibly irritated England manager said.

"I'm disappointed that Tom, as a sensitive young man, has got to bear that burden, but I know one thing - he will come through it and when he does come through it and Manchester United start winning again, and he's starting to get praise for his performances, he'll be stronger for it.''

He almost got it right. Perhaps small corrections are in order, along the lines of...

Given an overwhelming number of fans who have taken an unusual step of petitioning for the quality and honour of the team that represents their country in Brasil this summer, I am placed in am impossible situation. I can't sack Tom for it will look like I exhibited signs of weakness as a manager and had yielded to public opinion. I can't keep Tom, because I am afraid of the mob, and it is not clear that Russia will be extending an invitation for me to stay with my friend Victor Janukovich at his new dacha. I therefore have no choice but to resign effective immediately.

how the hell do you play like shit and still win 6-1??

oh, right. Muller. It is *because* you play like shit.

football is getting entirely too weird lately

Some forms of weirdness I can handle. Moyes for Man of the Year! Saturday should be an interesting matchup, but one that I'll approach with dread.

World Cup Teams: GermanyIf it wasn't for a catastrophic sequence of injuries, I would say Jogi had by far the biggest selection headache in the world, particularly in two areas.

Huh.

With Jogi at the Hertha Berlin vs. Bayern game, where an unexpected 4-1-2-3 was absolutely devastating with its SchweinsteigerKroos triangle, I suspect he is going to want to line up this way. This means completely giving up on defense; Germany will have no full backs to speak of, nor will Boateng, Mertesacker or Hunmmels be able to make up for this deficiency. It's a huge risk/reward situation, but the tempo at which these guys can move the ball out of the middle may just give them a tiny chance. With a hockey score, that is.

Bender back to RB, perhaps. I can't even think about LB options without cringing.

Wenger's last season?
He listens to Mourinho too much.

Or not enough.

The Annoying One, it strikes me, finds that very tricky balance between the Collective (which translates to playing the system, I suppose) and letting one express himself individually on the field.
