Given an overwhelming number of fans who have taken an unusual step of petitioning for the quality and honour of the team that represents their country in Brasil this summer, I am placed in am impossible situation. I can't sack Tom for it will look like I exhibited signs of weakness as a manager and had yielded to public opinion. I can't keep Tom, because I am afraid of the mob, and it is not clear that Russia will be extending an invitation for me to stay with my friend Victor Janukovich at his new dacha. I therefore have no choice but to resign effective immediately.

With Jogi at the Hertha Berlin vs. Bayern game, where an unexpected 4-1-2-3 was absolutely devastating with its SchweinsteigerKroos triangle, I suspect he is going to want to line up this way. This means completely giving up on defense; Germany will have no full backs to speak of, nor will Boateng, Mertesacker or Hunmmels be able to make up for this deficiency. It's a huge risk/reward situation, but the tempo at which these guys can move the ball out of the middle may just give them a tiny chance. With a hockey score, that is.

Bender back to RB, perhaps. I can't even think about LB options without cringing.

The Annoying One, it strikes me, finds that very tricky balance between the Collective (which translates to playing the system, I suppose) and letting one express himself individually on the field.
