I'm in, possibly MJ as well.
I would love to try Spinasse but have no idea about the corkage policy there.

Regular corkage is $25, don't know if they have a bottle limit.
So obviously a special arrangement would be required.

As I said, i'm in 100% as long as it is not 90 miles distant. I'm the Noob here, so ignore me as required, but I suggest we get a count of how many folks are committed.

I have concerns over some of the Seattle Jeeb places i've heard mentioned in the past - don't think chinese bbq pork and duck is necessarily the best foil regardless of how much riesling and vouvray I might have.

I work downtown and am willing to go anywhere no matter how high end. in a pinch I could probably host up here in Ballard if folks are willing to make the (small) journey.

Ah, a local bakery of yours earned a mention in the latest Art of Eating! I intend to try and snag one of the Honore Artisan Bakery's cannele while I'm out there. I haven't had one since Bouley Bakery closed.

Yes, it's in a small food ghetto on the other side of town, across the street from a little restaurant called A Caprice Kitchen which could have been a candidate for us, except she closed the place last week. Anyway, you can get the 15 bus there from downtown.

Actually Ballard has another noted bakery - Cafe Besalu. Had a mention in the NYT a year or so back, great pastries but I don't know of any cannele. There is a very good bread bakery next door too - Tall Grass. You can get there on the 18 bus.

Wine Stores...none good in Shoreline that I am aware of. Jay, drop me an email at blackcat (a t ) pro-ns (do t ) net, and I'll fix you up.

I'm perfectly fine with a trek to the "wilds" of Ballard: not that far, really. But it is an extra 10-15 minutes for the Bellingham folks. Their call. I think we'll be too big a party for most of the standard jeeb spots.

Since Jay is up in Shoreline, do you know any good restaurants that might work on the north side?

Maybe the Greenlake area?

Ballard would be fine too.

So far looks like we have:
Jay
Jeff
Lee + Melissa
BJ + L
Marc + maybe MJ
Jim
Bruce
and myself for 11 total
I like Tilth up there but doubt they could handle us.

I don't know the local places but out here tea smoked duck is a wonderful match with most reds.

Jeff is still uncertain but Bruce S. (friend of Lee from Minneapolis) will be joining us.

Damn, jeebing with a guru of cybersecurity! I'm downright jealous now.

A couple suggestions in Wallingford (easiest for B'ham and shoreline folk):

Eva
Joule

Eva can almost certainly handle us and I am in a wine group and friends with the owner. I know they do wine jeeb type things. James Hondros would be the man.

I have heard many raves about Joule but don't know about their ability to handle a large group.

I am going to step away now.

I also think the Boat Street is an excellent choice. They do have some large tables. Maybe a bit more wine friendly (less spicy) food.

Melissa has been to Joule and loved it. She says its wine suitability was pretty variable between the courses.

I've heard good things about Purple Cafe and Wine Bar, but not from anyone with a palate I trust. Pretty sure they'd be large group friendly, though.

The Corson Building has in the past indicated that they would be willing to host a wine group, but I didn't talk numbers with them. Their tables are set up for 12, though it's a pretty tight 12. They are pretty far south, but right off the freeway.

I've make tea smoked duck once before and would be happy to do so again if we elect not to eat at a restaurant. My backyard smelled like a chemical fire, but the duck was tasty.

MJ has to work early on Friday so won't be able to join us, unfortunately.

The venue suggestions so far sound great, I'm happy to leave it to the Seattle folk to decide.

Matt -- can you comment on the food at Purple?

Near as I can tell, everyone but Jim and I has abdicated responsibility.

Right now I'm leaning toward Purple, but Corson is a strong contender. I love the food there, and it's always wine friendly. I just think that Purple will be better for this kind of event. Sadly, there aren't many restaurants in Seattle that cater well to this sort of BYO event.

Well someones going to have to call a few and ask/bargain.
I'm about to head down to Portland for the weekend, but can maybe follow up a bit early next week.

Some of the restaurants mentioned may not be as agreeable to a bit party opening probably 20+ bottles of wine. One place I thought of (again Ballard - sorry) was Maria Hines new restaurant Golden Beetle. Its much more casual than Tilth, lots of small plates, very limited wine list - I always BYO there. They are an area near the back of the place where you could probably put a large group.

Joule is interesting but a little on the small side. Food was good but the place smelled a little like disinfectant the last time we were there and we haven't been back. Had never heard of Eva - but it looks interesting - thanks for the tip. Boat Street is a fairly large place, multi room sort of place - could probably handle a big party.

I've been to the Purple Cafe downtown a couple times. The food is decent, nothing special. They have free corkage on the 1st bottle. But someone would need to call them - it is a winebar afterall, not sure how they would react to 10 people showing up w/ 10-20 bottles of wine.

Sent an email to Corson.

Golden Beetle looks interesting, though a bunch of the food looks a little on the spicy side for the kind of wine I expect to see. We certainly could adjust what we bring if end up there...otherwise it looks like a very good option. Could you give them a call, Jim?
