is the ambiance preferable or inferior to lovely Shoreline??
The pizza place there gets big marks, but I have never been.

Shoreline is a bit of a dump, isn't it?

However there is a good diner on the corner of aurora and 155th. I think it was called shari's place.

The thing to eat in Shoreline is Korean - Ho Soon Yi is a good choice. I have not been to Shari's in ages. For Aurora Ave diner fare I would lean towards Cyndy's House of Pancakes. You just can't beat b'fast in a high back swivel counter chair. Get the Swedish pancakes.

It was a pleasure to meet you all and drink some (many) delicious wines. I am enjoying the last of the bota 24 right now, truly amazing. I believe Thursday night was also the first time anyone byobib'ed to the restaurant.

Well, there is a very high end residential area up there - the Highlands - so not sure it can be called a total dump. But as far as food, shopping, etc it seems to be a bit of a wasteland - strip malls and big box stores. Going ethnic / asian for food does seem like the best idea.

Ballard still feels like the boonies to me (after 11 yrs in San Fran, and 7 before that on the UWS), but there is some nice stuff around like Honore, Beselu, a few good restaurants, and downtown is just a few miles away.

Central Market in Shoreline was certainly an impressive grocery store. Great Asian section - any store with that many varieties of soy sauce is worth cultivating.

You can eat good cannele with good coffee any day you like (assuming you get there early enough) so you don't get to complain. There were some lovely older houses around there as well. But I know the feeling, I still miss Manhattan after 7 years in Jersey City.
