Difficult newbies are the only ones who'll last here.

Thor, I looked and was unable to learn who started and runs that board.
. . . . Pete
I bet email would work.Thor, I looked and was unable to learn who started and runs that board.
Jeff, I don't think that's fair. I don't think Brad wants this board to look like all the others. First, as Jay reminded us, it's just not that interesting to the masses, nor to the pointy wine drinking crowd. Second, it's got a strong and established enough personality that it will never be appealing to many who don't share that sensibility, and it can weather brief experiences with those who are more stubborn about not getting it. And third, I really don't understand the NIMBYism. We've all been newbies somewhere. The wine internet survived Yixin's arrival, and it survived Tom Troiano's departure, and Disorder will be just fine if some small handful of refugees decide they like this place more than another. That's all it will ever be: a small handful.I'm disappointed with you, Brad: Why do you want every place to be the same? Why do you want RP-style posts and CT-style notes here?
Oh, I'm sure they're on a sound legal footing. But the "thanks for all the great content, now you can pay to read it" position is, shall we say, ungracious.originally posted by Jeff Grossman:

But what on Coad's green earth would make you think that this would happen? Our reputation does precede us. And you know, we have picked up people along the way, with few ill effects. Some of them make a home here, others get their Beaujolais talk out here and leave the Santa Rita Hills chat for other venues. But anyone taking a look at this board for more than a minute is going to realize pretty quickly that it either is or isn't for them.I think this board is in trouble if 100 eBob'ers appear here and decide to stay.

What bothers me the most is how unwelcoming and exclusive this board can be. Well, many people here send out the message to newbies that they don't belong here because they're too fucking stupid and drink wine many here find objectionable and I don't see much difference between either form of bigotry.
I'm sure that's true.originally posted by Jay Miller:
there are any number of people who would add to this board.
