Jeebus in SF Monday, 12/8

The combination of Monday and party of 8 does pose a barrier. I've just looked on opentable.com and there's nothing really exciting (often, though, restaurants will have space that they don't list there).

Claude,

That is always the case. Almost no restaurant books parties larger than 5 or 6 on open table; you have to call them.

Maybe it's the economy, Mark, but there was a large number of restaurants that were listed as taking a party of 8 on that day and time, just not ones that I found very suitable for our purposes (e.g., good wine service program). Perbacco and Sociale (and I suspect Slanted Door) as a matter of policy, though, will not take parties that size through opentable. Worked fine in the end, anyway, since it is necessary to warn/negotiate about the large number of byob.

Well, I don't know how worthy it is of $25 corkage but I already shipped a 1998 Drouhin-Laroze Bonnes Mares and a 1995 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru. Both too young I know, but I was limited by what was in boxes that didn't require a lot of moving about while my back was giving me problems.

I don't really like Drouhin-Laroze wines, but that 1995 Chambolle 1er should be great. I'm definitely coming. See you then!

Actually, Drouhin-Laroze's 1998s have been showing well for a number of years.

I thought I remembered you praising them somewhat a few years ago which is one of the reasons I pulled it. Glad to see my memory was working better than usual.

Hi nathan,

I have no idea if you're serious here or not. Are you in town and interested in attending?

Oh I read the date wrong.

I won't make it after all.

Since I can't come, I think Kraft should be banned for being insolent.

That means everyone on the waiting list gets in, provided they can come up with the proper wine.

I didn't realize insolence was a banning offense. Perhaps, that's why you can't get a jeebus invite, VLM?

No, it's because I'm a figment of Dressner's imagination.

I'm afraid I have to relinquish my coveted waiting-list position. My freelance income is tanking along with the rest of the economy, and I'll be drinking Grocery Outlet overruns and pruno for a while.

Just an FYI - my internet access will be spotty from 11/28 to 12/7 when I get back to SF. I'll probably be able to check every so often but not necessarily on a regular basis.

I suggested that we could bring stems, but that was rejected. As Scott says, they have great stems. They will also decant wines unless we request that they not do so. One of the reasons I selected Sociale was the first class wine service.

Jim Kennedy, the Sommelier, is excellent, and they do have plenty of stemware; which is why I thought Sociale was an idea choice.

Just remember you're sitting outside, so wear layered clothing; they do have heaters.
