2007 Clos Roche Blanche Gamay

After the miraculous 04 Tue-Boeuf gamay dried up we found the 04 CRB gamay to be a suitable substitute. Dont know how they might be tasting now but I would definitely be giving that one first shot.

Definitely the 2005 Joel, at least for my palate.

If the Sun is responsible for the uptick in quality of Gamay in 2005 and 2007 then shine, baby, shine. There are still plenty of thin, acidic wines for Jason to enjoy. Hopefully, the vignerons will use the power of Sol for good and not evil.

Isn't this what the organic revolution is about, making the best wines from what God has bestowed. If they can harnesses the ripeness of the fruit while maintaining the acidity and uniqueness of the Gamay profile, then we may see a new era for the variety. Otherwise, we may end up with generic crap (not there has ever been a shortage of that coming out of Beaujolais).

2007 was remarkable for the consistent rain throughout the summer. "Our best mildew harvest ever" was Catherine's report at CRB.

Huh. And yet I loved the '07 Gamay.
Me, too. But you can't credit the sunshine.

looks like i can get 04, 05 and 06 Gamay here in Japan....any vintage preferences?

Beware the plastique.

you refer to the possibility of it being faked? i don't think so, not here and not for this wine

I think he's referring to the closure. As Coad would say, FAKE CORK!

Is the Cot the only CRB red sealed with a real bark cork?

I believe both the Cuve Ct and the Ct-Malbec are under bark.

Oh dear, I've just assumed those were just different vintages of the same wine. Now I need to figure out which of the two I've drank and loved in '04 and '05.

They may well be. I can't keep it straight. But I do recall something about the 'Cuve Ct' having young-vines stuff mixed in with the old-vine stuff. No malbec, though.

This was true in '05 but not in '06. Best guess is that they still had labels left over that said 'Cuve Ct' and didn't want to reprint.

In '04 it was the Cot/Malbec blend, in '05 it was the old vines/young vines blend.

In '04 it was the Cot/Malbec blend, in '05 it was the old vines/young vines blend.

And the old vines/young vines blend was 100% ct, yes?

Wait. Cot == Malbec, no? How could you have a Cot/Malbec blend?
Oh, dear. Not only was that the running joke earlier in the thread, but I even got in on the fun.

Either this thread needs to go to bed, or I do. Probably both.

Correct.
