EPL Season

I thought Ramsey was just tired towards the middle of January and needed a couple of weeks worth of rest. So where has he been lately ?

What do you guys think of Giovinco ? I'd take him over Goetze, not because he is a more complete player, but because Goetze is another hybrid midfielder/attacker, and at this point I'd rather see pure midfielders who can make killer passes to guys like Giovinco, who'd make the most of it.

looks totally worn out to me. Report is an ankle injury from the Milan game, out for another week or so. He had a lot piled on him this season. He started out very well, but then it seemed like he hit a wall. Sort of ran out of ideas. This is the most he has ever played.

I hope Jack isn't perma-crocked.

I haven't seen enough of Giovinco to really evaluate, but he does seem a bit small. Yann M'Vila, while not like-for-like, is a few inches taller and stronger.

I made a point of watching the french league a couple of times, to have a look at M'Vila , when I thought we were bidding. Not sure, to be honest. The upside is some diminished version of Vieira, the downside could be another Jon Obi Mikel.

The person on Arsenal radar who's impressed me the most lately is Cissokho. No idea why we did not get him over the summer. Really no idea.

Would have been in front of Gibbs. Wenger REALLY likes Gibbs. I'm not sure he was available as late as Santos.

I'm not sure that I agree with your assessment of M'Vila. I would say the upside is a Mascherano or a Makalele.

The only midfielder to come close to being a Vieira is Yaya Toure. Vieira is almost a one-off.

I think Mikel got ruined by Mourihno by being forced into the Makelele role when he was more naturally a box-to-box type. I wouldn't be surprised to see him really improve with a different manager and team.

Here's another big question, do you let Ox fight it out with Ramsey and Wilshire for a spot alongside Song or do you send him out wide? FWIW, I'm VERY impressed with him.

I'm really not sure what to make of him. It looks like we are competing with ourselves to sign him. Which Podolski will we get? Does he work for Arsenal?

Saw the score and ran out of the office to catch the second half.

If I was a superstitious sort, I would probably blame myself. Instead, I blame Theo.

yup. brainless.

the ox doing a hammy with his first stretch in the second half didn't help either.

god. a c milan were shite. robinho was so slow that i'm as inclined to suspect syphilis as too many pies. a frustrating 45 mins.

and to continue a theme of mine, i think this game may show that, like my wardrobe, some things really do work better without the last minute impulse purchases.

on a serious note, compare the decision making leading up to ox's penalty (an easy decision, i think, made to look hard by a very poor ref) with the many options walcott took.

kid lacks balls, not just brains.

And even if you get the national team Podolski, is he really the right player? Why? So he'll hurt a couple of goalies. Then what ?

Didn't someone just write that, for a different reason?

If Plan A happens to work, don't you need to think about why it worked, and that it may not be so perfect after all, as there is actually a second team on the pitch that may, no matter how pathetically, try to adjust at the break?

Wenger did not seize the opportunity. But that would not have mattered if someone gave Theo a compass.

I've really enjoyed watching him play, amidst an embarrassment of riches. If Cote D'Ivoire can ever gel as a team (and get decent coaching) they should be fun to watch.

I quote from game commentary regarding the incident which led to the fourth of five goals in Manchester United vs Athletic Bilbao Europa League round of 16 game: "Evra didn't have his boot on properly and the ref has stopped the play as United went forward. And he's given a free-kick to Athletic for the boot being on the pitch."

What really happened was that once Evra took his boot off, a Bilbao player refused to shake his foot, which led to a United retaliation, earning Bilbao a free kick.

Have some pity for a Liverpool fan.

Xabi Alonso has a tendency to hide as well. But when he's not, he's fantastic. Him and Didi Hamann...

Liverpool will be just fine. They just need a couple of players this summer.

You're kidding, right? Liverpool needs quite a bit from where I stand. So, Yixin, I am very sympathetic. Fucking Daglish is out of his depth.

I'm not sure what this "hiding" thing is all about, to be honest. It seems like a very Anglo-centric view of football. That is, if you aren't huffing and puffing, you're hiding.

Xabi Alonso can do whatever the fuck he wants, as far as I'm concerned. I may enjoy watching him even more than Xavi.

Oh, how easy it is to overestimate Theo after games like this.

But back to Lpool. Insiders claim they need 3 players, and none on defense. I am just a spectator.

Not for me. I wash my hands of him, but did really enjoy his contributions.

Liverpool needs a lot of help. Almost everywhere.

What a glorious, spirited finish to the match. No one hiding, eh fatboy?

What happened to Ox? Seemed a bit lost to me, but I watched on TV, so he could have been hiding.

I really do think we're going to catch Spurs.

Anyone want to meet in London and try to see Chelsea on the 28th?

Would love to, but totally booked.
I am getting used to the really young (or is it just less experienced?) players getting tired much faster than their 25-26 yr old colleagues who either know how to pace themselves or just have more endurance. Ramsey this year, Muller in his first year, and certainly Ox - it's been quite a stretch of 6 games for him.
